Interesting, provocative, disturbing. Many actresses likely shunned the role because it does play to men's fantasies and misconceptions about women and rape. The claim that the film is about female empowerment is as unconvincing as the protagonist is in the position of head of a video game company. Also, let's not forget that the novelist, the screen writer, the director, and the producer are all men. Meanwhile, the director let's himself off the hook by suggesting that he doesn't know what the film is, and that it may be a complete fantasy. Having said all that, I rated the film highly because it is provocative and generally well made despite some distracting inconsistencies -- For example, why does the baby change colour? Overall, the film is a fine example of male perspective and male storytelling :) Finally, a few weeks later, it was interesting to watch the lead actress, Isabelle Huppert, in Heaven's Gate, in another role when she was much younger. Note that she was interviewed in 2017 by Charlie Rose, who seemed quite enamored by her -- just sayin'.
