Laura Marling's latest is a subdued effort, intent on growing slowly on the ears and heart, revealing itself on multiple listens. While previous albums had tracks that brought out Marling's rougher, bluesier side, "Semper Femina" stays mostly in folkier territory. There are many standout tracks here, "Wild Fire", "Wild Once" and "Nothing, Not Nearly" sit alongside Marling's best work. She remains a singular talent.
