The film is a compelling drama that shows talented performers doing their best. The only thing that keeps it from being truly perfect or something close is the fact that the movie centers around real people yet real events and important details showing the bigger context get glossed over. For example, the protagonist is shown being a homophobic and racist bigot before his HIV diagnosis; this was made up for the film's dramatic arc, with the real guy being a decent person throughout his life. Still, the movie is well worth watching, with these caveats.
