"Poet Maya Angelou recounted her early years in I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, which describes her time living with her grandmother in Arkansas. In Mom & Me & Mom we learn of Angelou’s reunion at age 13 with her mother, Vivian Baxter, in San Francisco. Though at first Angelou resented her mother for having left her with her grandmother, she gradually began to recognise Baxter's efforts to provide for her daughter and to understand how much she loved her. This “tightly strung, finely tuned” (Kirkus Reviews) account expresses both the complexity and the depth of their relationship while also recounting Angelou’s experiences as a young woman."
