Two Generals is a graphic novel about the true story of the author’s grandfather, Law Chantler, during his time fighting for the allies in World War 2 alongside his best friend and fellow officer Jack. And you can tell from the start that Scott Chantler knew what he was writing about; that he wasn’t writing in his own words but in the words of one who was there and saw it. The beginning hooks readers and the end wraps it all up decently. The only thing readers may dislike is what’s in the middle. The style and attention to detail is something you expect to see in a newspaper comic rather than a graphic novel. It also makes it next to impossible to make out and identify different characters. The facts that there is no colour to provide identifying traits such as hair colour, they all look similar and dress the same only add to this problem. And it cuts in and out of scenes like a comic book or graphic novel, but with none of the flow; some of the transitions are difficult to identify, while others hit you like a bullet. If you want to do some light research on Operation Overlord or just kill a few hours, this book is as good a choice as any. - @R2-D2 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
