While Koontz does love to knock you over the head with not-very-subtle foreshadowing, it was an enjoyable vacation read. There were a few puzzling moments for me (way too descriptive about the nude shows that had nothing to do with the story) or totally bogus-feeling plot points (a dog can learn to read in just a few weeks?), but as summer reading goes, it was great. I can see why Koontz has so many best-selling works.
