Add a CommentMagnificent Homespun Brown is a stunning book that begs to be read aloud. Samara Cole Doyon's poetic text includes lots of fun alliteration and is sewn together like a traditional African American quilt, one of which appears at the end of the book. Kaylani Juanita's illustrations are worth lingering over, warm and nuanced, focusing on Black girls and including characters with disabilities. Big words make this book best for sharing, but you won't want to miss out on this beauty, anyway. A perfect book celebrating Black joy.
Comparing the color brown to beautiful, wonderful, and natural things, Samara Cole Doyon offers a poetic reminder that brown is a beautiful color while Kaylani Jaunita's vibrantly brown illustrations serve to make that point even more clear.
A wonderful poetic celebration of being comfortable in your own skin.
