Amazing how no one is commenting about the similarities in this series to what's happening right now in the US with the erosion of our freedom of choice & the current political climate. This series is way too prophetic. This could easily become a reality if we don't wake up & take action now.

Be patient with the first half: slow, too much flash back, lack of concrete points. Without Atwood, the show goes back to the way of Hollywood.

Is “The Handmaid’s Tale” the most disturbing show on television? Can’t say for sure, but I know one thing: It is the most disturbing show I watch. Season 2 continues the dreary, depressing tale of June/Offred as she tries to survive the absolute hell in which she finds herself. This show has been criticized for the glacial pace of the episodes, but I do not mind the unhurried storytelling style of “The Handmaid’s Tale”. I believe the pace of the show would mirror that of a handmaid’s existence. Think about how slow time must be for a handmaid, stuck in a drab, featureless room for hours on end, knowing that at any moment a burst of terror will wash over you from the latest rape, stoning, or hanging. The viewer can intuit feelings of dread, hopelessness, and helplessness simply by reading the body language and facial expressions of this excellent group of actors. What a distressingly joyless society the Gileadians have created for themselves. Gilead is an extreme consequence of crossing radical religious fundamentalism with radical environmental zealotry. Predictably, the result is a terrifying, totalitarian dystopia where freedom has gone to die. So, why watch it? Well, in “The Handmaid’s Tale”, the performances are excellent, and the chasm between good and evil is clearly defined. Who doesn’t like to root for good to triumph over evil? This is one of those shows that either you like it or you don’t. No in-between.

Soo Boring.... Lucky that I have a Blu Ray player that speeds up the movie twice as fast and you still hear the dialogue. The first season was good, even watched the ORIGINAL movie from the theaters. This was sooo slow, no plot..almost gave up on it several times. I guess it won awards because it was constant gay marriage, lesbian couples, etc and Hollywood loves that stuff now. The plot and story could have been done in a 2 hr movie. Every scene was so slow..took 2 minutes to walk from one room to another, etc.. Anyway, there will be a season 3 and I will painfully watch it in another year.

Pointless, wandering, sad nonsense. There really is no story.

i quit watching after the 1st disc of the 2nd season. The episodes are too repetitious- there is very little action, just a gloomy face on the main character June/Offred. It becomes very depressing to watch, just a lot of unrelenting sad and dour faces on most of the main characters. If you are anti-Christian and committed to many of today's left wing causes, you will probably like this series. It touches on all the anti-establishment points we are assaulted by when exposed to mainstream news today.

Interesting reviews that vary drastically. I read this book about the time it came out, recently I read it again & didn't much care for it...then I watched the Season One & became more interested. Now I've seen Season Two - a bit slow beginning, lots of back story, lots of drama on the silent facial takes. Then the pace picks up, the reality set in for me.

Having finished this season I came away feeling how farsighted Atwood has been from the inception. Religious beliefs, the use & abuse of such beliefs is so real. Pure brainwashing, men in power -and some women- run amuck with their beliefs. It happens today, maybe not to this degree, but close enough. Lots of god talk, obedient & submissive woman used by men is very real. A twisted, perverted society too darn close to many currently in power. Death is preferable.

Another terrific season. You'll have to pay attention as it starts out a bit slow and moves back and forth in time. Very good acting by the leads. Can't wait for the next season!

I had to force myself to keep watching, but at the end of the 8th hour (two of 4 discs), I realized that I had actually seen about 90 minutes worth of story. Completely artsy-fartsy nonsense. (Not all that artsy, and and directed by a complete moron with no sense of pace, tension, drama or audience awareness.) Tedious. Boring. Lame. Repetitious. Mind numbing. Monotonous. Wearisome. Uninteresting. Dreary. (Use the thesaurus for other appropriate adjective.) Unless you expect to live another 150 years, use your time more wisely.
