Add a CommentSlow but telling account of our hallowed Pilgrim Forefathers. Then as now, witch hunts tend to gain momentum as the hunters grow more fanatical. Allstar cast.
Not a large-scale docudrama, but a more intimate portrait of how the Salem witch trials affected one family. Though there are many reports and documents about the events, many are contradictory, and are debated to this day. Therefore, a certain amount of art and imagination must be added to the facts, and Three Sovereigns for Sarah are close as we are likely to come in a single TV movie. Starring Vanessa Redgrave, Kim Hunter, noir great Phyllis Thaxter, and Patrick McGoohan.
Vanessa Redgrave was perfectly suited for the defiant witch-hunt victim Sarah in this docudrama. I was absorbed with the story being a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, however the film lost some credibility with the "possessed" young ladies who would periodically bust out into spastic convulsions that were nothing short of ridiculous.
didn't watch much of this as I'm not real big on reproductions as much as I am documentaries.
