Good visuals. I didn't care for the original and I didn't care for this one either.

I have been told that the director's cut of the original Bladerunner made it clear that Deckart was a replicant. So, Bladerunner 2049 is a straightforward continuation of that narrative. I watched it twice, with several months intervening. The first time, I liked it. The second time, I loved it. For those who find Ryan Gosling's acting a little flat, keep in mind that he "is" a machine, programmed to obey. The visuals were dazzling, even poetic. My only real complaint is that the ending didn't quite satisfy - seemed to be just left dangling, with no apparent place to go next.

I don't fancy sci-fi movies, but I've been impressed by Denis Villeneuve's films ("Incendies" was terrific), so I thought I'd have a look. After an hour I quit. No amount of interesting cinematography can make up for a listless plot and lacklustre acting.

A worthy follow-up to an awesome film. It's a shame it did not do well in the box office.

This movie was just weird and boring and completely uninteresting. I watched it because of the hype, but I guess I just don't understand the hype. I don't recommend it... its just weird.

quite a disappointment - muddy narrative and absolutely no logical progression whatsoever - just a bunch of superhero and super villain crap - I guess the thinking was that we have to appeal to the moron market to make a buck. So corporate honchos of the near future will do all their own nastiness in person -ha - just like they do now... no hired goons, no employees --- oh the list goes own. Really bad writing will sink any movie - what a shame, what a waste.

painfully slow and tedious. This movie needs some serious editing. 2.5 hrs is 1hr too long.

Philip K Dick immerses you in his worlds he does not explain them. This stays true to the original story while building on the drives present in earlier Nexus androids. This is a very visual story with you as the audience left to decide what some things mean. A story driven film special effects serve the story. Very well done and a welcome addition to the world Philip created.

Starts muddled up so it gets confusing leading to boredom, almost like they want you to hate it.

And they do that irritating thing recent movies do where they muffle up the audio on key bits of dialogue like they want to be sure you can't actually understand what's being said.

But if you last to the end there's a big "Oh yeah...now I get it," and everything makes sense.

Some might be able to forgive the movie makers for the earlier irritation.

I did and stopped squirming in my seat by the end. Wound up enjoying it.

Boring and agonizingly long (2 3/4 hrs). A big disappointment compared to the original. Fast Forward definitely needed.

Pages of quotes in IMDb including this title card introduction:

Replicants are bioengineered humans, designed by Tyrell Corporation for use off-world. Their enhanced strength made them ideal slave labor. After a series of violent rebellions, their manufacture became prohibited and Tyrell Corp went bankrupt.

The collapse of ecosystems in the mid 2020s led to the rise of industrialist Niander Wallace, whose mastery of synthetic farming averted famine. Wallace acquired the remains of Tyrell Corp and created a new line of replicants who obey. Many older model replicants - Nexus 8s with open-ended lifespans - survived. They are hunted down and 'retired'

Those that hunt them still go by the name... Blade Runner.
