Pretty good entry to this series. It does get a little dull about 2/3 in, but gets fun again after that. The resolution is a bit lame, but decent watch though if you liked the other ones!

The ‘apes’ delivered superior performances compared to the humans, including the script writers, except for maybe the young orphan girl who brought a measure of warmth into the winter landscape.

Reducing The Colonel, a.k.a Woody Harrelson, to a cookie-cutter religious zealot rendered this finale a poor offering in the franchise. Even his lengthy monologue in which he poured out the mother lode of exposition did not prevent him from presenting as a one-dimensional character. Overall, this film was short on ideas but not on SFX which may be just enough to make this finale watchable.

Dawn was much better. The humor was out of place in a couple scenes. Maybe too many slow moments and slow motion. Ending scene for final battle was a little stupid because it turned out there was a ridiculously easy way to wipe out the fort.

This final instalment of the revised adaption of the Planet of the Apes series that was based upon the 1963 novel written by French author, Pierre Boulle. I had always been impressed with the original five movies, starting with the 1968 Planet of the Apes, and ending with the 1973 Battle for the Planet of the Apes, and find that they still stand the test of time fairly well even with today's special effects.
However the impressive adaption of the story and the GCI effects, in my mind, makes this new series far superior; starting with the 2011 Rise of the Planet of the Apes; followed by the 2014 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes; concluding with the 2017 War for the Planet of the Apes.
I thought that the story was credible and had some interesting twists. This series did pay homage to the original, by using certain phrases and images, in which I thought was very creative and enhanced the more current adaptions.
Although the 2001 revision of the Planet of the Apes, although impressive with some aspects, however for me, just did not live up to the original, and has far surpassed by the most recent adaptions.
The special features on this film did have an interview with Andy Serkis (whom did Gollum
in the Hobbit; Lord of the Rings films; and the 2005 King Kong).
The film credits show that this was filmed in California, Alberta and Grouse Mountain. Looking further on IMDB, also credits Vancouver and Tofino. I had been told that parts were filmed inside the Canada Post building, downtown Vancouver and while watching the film, it looked like a Tofino beach scene.

I'm a big fan of the original "Planet of the Apes." Less so of the 4 sequels and the listless Tim Burton remake. When they decided to reboot the series earlier in the decade, I had low expectations, but have actually enjoyed the new film. This third entry is more of the same and while it's not great (too long for one thing), it held my interest. The ultra-realistic CGI apes continue to make the main draw. They're really the star this time (led by the great Andy Serkis as Caesar), with only a few human character of any note, including a mute girl and a rabid Woody Harrelson as an ape-hating soldier who has maybe watched "Apocalypse Now" too many times. Warning: You'll find yourself rooting for the apes over the humans.

They keep you in suspense for the "war" that is going to happen, only it never does. And it's 2 hours and 20 minutes long! It's incredibly slow, boring, and I think it's Andy Serkis' worst performance by far. It's so flat and cartoonish. "Apes are good and pure while humanity is all bad". There was a human character that could have been developed more as a 3 dimensional character, but nope... He just got blown up. And if Woody is your main villain, you got problems. The second film in the trilogy had decent action sequences, but this one is just awful all around. If you're 10 feet away from apes and are firing assault rifles, you SHOULD be able to kill them all rather easily.

Brilliant acting. How Andy Serkis doesn't have an Oscar yet is beyond me. On the other hand, the movie feels slow in some places and has an ending that is almost too neat.

Action and humour with a good story to support it. There are some great characters introduced here.

It was a breakthaking and beautiful movie, and what an epic ending to the trilogy. It was certainly a brilliant movie with very talented actors and voice actors. Definitely worth watching, this movie will make you cry and laugh even in some bits and hold your breath in anticipation.

Many quotes in IMDb including this opening narrative:

Fifteen years ago, a scientific experiment gone wrong gave rise to a species of intelligent apes and destroyed most of humanity with a virus that became known as Simian Flu.
"Rise"
With the dawn of a new ape civilization led by Caesar, the surviving humans struggled to coexist. But fighting finally broke out when a rebel ape, Koba, led a vengeful attack against humans.
"Dawn"

A ruthless Special Forces Colonel and his hardened battalion were dispatched to exterminate the apes.
