This French comedy-drama features Felix, an unemployed, gay Frenchman of Arab descent, who has a series of adventures during a trek through the French countryside. The film examines the familiar theme of a man's search for his identity. Felix is forced to confront the anger he feels toward his father for abandoning him, and the fear and shame he feels, living as an outsider in a predominantly straight, Caucasian world.

Here's a film that proves that the French still can master that most evanescent of qualities: charm. This picaresque little road movie has it in spades. The leading man has a rare, boyish appeal, the episodes and characters he's involved with are drawn with a light, deft, hand, and above all, the very serious issues that are dealt with--family, regret, racism, human connection--are so lightly and appropriately mounted that one doesn't realize how satisfying and substantial this bonbon has been until the film is over. It leaves an extremely pleasant aftertaste.
