The resulting sedentary lifestyles have been tied to numerous health problems, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and depression. This lack of physical activity has contributed to a decline in quality of life and in average lifespan and has a societal cost in terms of increased health care... The Rural Active Living Assessment (RALA) tool was created to provide decision-makers with information they can use to gauge to what degree a municipality's policies, infrastructure, and amenities support active lifestyles among its citizens... The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention has provided funding for the RALA to be conducted across Maine by the local Healthy Maine Partnerships. This RALA was completed in fulfillment of the Healthy Portland (HMP) 2015-2016 work plan." -- page 2.
