This award winning series is one of the finest drawn and powerful manga series currently in print. It describes the relationship between pre-teens, one who is hearing impaired and the other who is her tormentor. The story is explained through the tormentor's perspective so there is a clear understanding of his motives and thus he does not become a stock character or a foil for the heroine to easily triumph over. Instead this manga series dives deep into the psyches of children and how seemingly inconsequential events create moments that haunt people for ever. This manga series flips the script on bully stories and makes the bully the chief protagonist and hero of the series. Without giving away too many plot lines and spoilers suffice it to say this series is worth reading regardless if you enjoy manga or not.

A sad story about respecting our differences and about the terrible consequences of school yard bullying.

One very meaningful read about bully, love, friendship, and growth. I was deeply moved by the story and the concept it carries in each of the character, especially the main boy. If you read it, be ready to not stop at just volume 1.

The story is great, shows how some people look at social interactions as well as bullying.

This series is well worth the read. Best manga I have ever read. It is not your typical Shonen or Shojo, rather it's a slice of life with a purpose. I don't want to give away too much about the story, but I consider this a must-read.

A sweet coming-of-age story of a bully getting a taste of his own medicine. Well, I say "sweet," but in reality sometimes it's sad to see the way the deaf girl is bullied. The protagonist's realization of his actions though is nice, and I look forward to reading how he handles his past actions as the manga shows him getting older. Overall, the manga has a good story, believable protagonist, and a good balance of pain and humor to make it interesting.

it was pretty good itself, and makes you see how it feels to take a taste of your own medicine.
The whole series was so good I read it over three times!

This was a really good book. At times it was hard to read due to the fact that the story is told from the bully's point of view. I am excited to read the next volume.
