"Portrait in Black" - 4 stars - Lana Turner reprises her 1946 The Postman Always Rings Twice as a femme fatale plotting with her lover to get rid of her aging husband. While this film is in color, the director still tries to use venetian blind shields and other cross-hatched designs used to symbolize the prison bars that begin to encircle the pair as they get deeper and deeper in the plot. It doesn't quite duplicate the dangers and tension produced by the shadows of the best black and white film noir films; hence, my 4 star rating. "Madame X" - 3 stars - This is Lana Turner's last film role as the leading star. The coincidences that the beginning and end could be really possible in a person's life are just too unbelievable. I don't see how the audiences could accept it. Maybe because of their wishes that Lana Turner would succeed in renewing her career.
