No chemistry at all between Costner and Houston.

What does Diana Ross have to do with this? Maybe you should watch it again.

Love Diana Ross. What a voice.

I'd definitely say that the story behind the making of The Bodyguard is a far more interesting tale to tell than the actual movie itself. It's true.

Believe it, or not - The making of The Bodyguard goes all the way back to 1976. Originally it was a vehicle meant for the likes of Steve McQueen and Diana Ross. No kidding. And, to make a long story short - It was McQueen who flatly refused to accept 2nd billing under Diana Ross and so, because of that, the whole project was promptly quashed and put on the perpetual back-burner.

Then in 1979 it was Ryan O'Neal's turn to be teamed up with (guess who?) Diana Ross. Well, O'Neal adamantly refused to work with Ross, too. (Can anyone blame him?) Apparently, it was some sort of personal animosity-thing between these two, something that went back a few years. And, so, once again, the making of The Bodyguard was put on the shelf. But, believe me, it was far from being forgotten!

Then, for the 1992 production of The Bodyguard, it was originally intended to be Madonna who was to be paired up with Kevin Costner. But, in the previous year, with the release of Madonna's "Truth Or Dare" that, of course, changed that whole line-up, but fast.

If my memory serves me well - There's this one scene in Madonna's flick where Costner comes backstage to see Madonna after her concert. And he gushingly congratulates her on her show, calling it "Really Neat" - Well, with Madonna being "Madonna", she later makes some snide wisecrack about Costner's "Really Neat" remark in her movie and, naturally, Costner sees this when Truth Or Dare was released - So, to make yet another long story short - It's exit Madonna. Enter Whitney Houston for her screen debut.

Oh! Wow! Like, what a story, eh? Believe me, this sort of thing is so much more interesting than the movie, itself. It really is!

Seen it several times but wanted to re-watch it. The premise is intriguing, apparently Whitney and Kevin got along great on set, but the passion simply wasn't there. Many black women have no problem dating white men but one reason the chemistry felt off is perhaps that out of all the white men you could pick, a very demure Costner wouldn't cut it. Especially not when Houston's character is a self-proclaimed outspoken diva. In the dvd extras, the screenwriter said race was never meant to be a part of it but then says Diana Ross and Steve McQueen were originally chosen for the roles. I love Costner in this role though and while Houston's acting wasn't so great, her voice is incredible. This should be re-made as it was incredibly successful. Someone to Watch Over Me was another bodyguard romance film where the notion is intriguing but the passion/chemistry just wasn't there.

It was not the best movie ever, but it was an intriguing film with all the right actors as all the right characters, especially Ms. Whitney Houston. May she rest in Eternal Peace. Gone but never will she be forgotten. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Your musical legacy will live long beyond yours earthly years here with us.
