How many times do parents reassure their children, “It’ll be fun!” when persuading a young child to do something such as having their hair cut or having a bath?
In Jeff Mack’s newest picture book, Skunk desperately needs a bath. A smelly green cloud of funk surrounds Skunk because he hasn’t washed for such a long time.
His good friend, Bear, is planning a surprise birthday party for Skunk. Knowing that no one is likely to attend unless Skunk smells much better, Bear tries everything to get his friend into the bathtub. “It’ll be fun!” he tells Skunk - who doesn’t believe him for a minute.
Bear adds a swing, a trampoline and a slide to the bathtub. Nothing works! Skunk is too sly to be tricked into the bathtub.
The interplay between the well-meaning, kindly Bear and Skunk is clever and tongue-in-cheek – a perfect match for the silly, comic artwork that illustrates this colorful picture book.
