"Get ready for a world in which anyone can have the powers of a god or the fame of a pop star, in which human achievement soars to new heights while its depravity plunges to the blackest depths. A world in which at least one cat smells like a seafood shop's Dumpster on a hot summer day. This is the world in which Zoey Ashe finds herself, navigating a futuristic city in which one can find elements of the fantastic, nightmarish, and ridiculous on any street corner"--Amazon.com.
In the near future, Zoey Ashe navigates a city in which one can find elements of the fantastic, nightmarish and ridiculous on any street corner. Anyone can have the powers of a god or the fame of a pop star; human achievement soars to new heights while its depravity plunges to the blackest depths. Her only trusted advisor is a cat, but even in the future, cats cannot give advice. At least not any that you'd want to follow.

“IF ZOEY ASHE HAD KNOWN SHE WAS BEING STALKED BY A MAN WHO INTENDED TO KILL HER AND THEN SLOWLY EAT HER BONES, SHE WOULD HAVE WORRIED MORE ABOUT THAT AND LESS ABOUT GETTING HER CAT OFF THE ROOF.”

Yeah... that pretty much sold me and I was not disappointed with the rest.

Page 219: Zoey shivered and said," I think I'm in a straitjacket somewhere, imagining all of this." That was my reaction, too. After awhile, the comic bookish violence got boring.

My favorite line was on page 9: "The car swerved to miss a single cow that was lazily grazing in its path. It mooed at her, probably telling Zoey she should turn her headlights on."

Two words: Stench Machine! Okay, a few more...I loved this! Darkly funny and irreverent, there's lots of action and some tongue-in-cheek predictions for how today's problems could play out in the future.

I guess I'm officially sick of books that try too hard to be "zany". Quit at page 48.

Such a fun and funny book. Can't wait to see this turned into a movie!

This is a movie waiting to be made (hopefully not by Michael Bay). A rip-roaring yarn of an illegitimate heir riding out the storm her dead father has created. I really COULD NOT put this book down until I had finished it. Not as gory as his other books.

A funny read about a potential near future dystopia. For fans of Mr. Wong "Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits" is a departure from his previous work. More science-fiction, but be not afraid, the writing still has the Monty-Pythonesque trademark seen in "John Dies at the End".

The pseudonymous author of John Dies at the End turns his attention from horror to science fiction in this fast-paced, darkly humorous novel, which begins when barista Zoey Ashe survives a live-streamed assassination attempt. That's when she discovers that her deceased biological father was not the deadbeat she always assumed, but rather the billionaire founder of Tabula Ra$a, a Mob-ruled metropolis in the Utah desert. Her dead dad's associates, the Suits, offer to protect her from future attacks in exchange for her help defeating their enemy, cyborg crime boss Molech. And since staying alive is a priority for Zoey, she has no choice but to accept their help. Science fiction newsletter December 2015

“This whole thing happened because I got up last night, because my cat got hungry and I had to go find a fork, and I stumbled into that conference room and saw Will and Ling and their cop friend messing with a severed hand.” Budd said, “A severed what?” and Andre said, “Your cat eats with a fork?”
