Our protagonist drives around the almost treeless hills of Iran looking for someone to shovel dirt on his corpse after he suicides. The pace is very slow and the dialog is sparse. Although the discussions of the morality of suicide are framed in Islamic terminology, they are essentially the same as in Christian theology. He meets a Kurd, an Afghani, and a Turk among other Irani. They show him kindness, but try to dissuade him from killing himself. If you are patient and willing to work at it you can get a very human feel for Iran.

This film draws you in slowly... not for the short attention span generation. Kiarostami is truly a great filmmaker. Leaves you thinking long after the end.
