This story wonderfully tied the life of three roommates and each of their struggles into one captivating tale. Each chapter followed one of the three characters through a specific moment in time. This unique style created suspense and intrigue, though it generated confusion at times. People who enjoyed "Eight Hundred Grapes" by Laura Daves or "The Art of Crash Landing" by Melissa DeCarlo will enjoy another story focusing on a flawed, yet admirably determined, female protagonist.
Funny and smart with some biting dialogue. REALLY hated the constant moving back and forth between time periods. That multiplied by three characters made things confusing at times. (Seems to be a trend over the last five with new authors, this jumping back and forth stuff. Hoping the masters programs in creative writing will stop encouraging it and we can all get back to reading linear stories).
I too enjoyed the story but found the jumping back and forth between numerous time periods very confusing.
An easy read, it held my interest as it followed the lives of three friends, but I found the ending a little disappointing. Would be a good book club read.
I really like this author and I enjoyed this book thoroughly. That being said, I found the syntax a bit disorienting. There was a lot of jumping back and forth between different time periods. I think that, when an author does this with more than two (or three at the outside) time periods, that it can cause confusion.
I also wouldn't have minded more conclusive endings for the characters involved but I suspect that's just my personal propensity for wanting everything tied into a neat little package.
What I liked most about this book was the wonderful characterizations of the protagonists.
I've loved the author since her very first book, and this does not dissapoint. I was curious to read this since she has put the "Spellman" chronicles to rest. I actually enjoyed how she hopped around to different time frames and places, and in the end it all made perfect sense. Her trademark quick, smart-ass, intelligent humor is prevelant throughout.
