thank you to jlazcan...stories about sad doggy-things really puddlize me until near uselessness. although those tuff- love emotional stabwounds should be good for us every so often i can NEVER get to that clearing in the forest and remain locked in an embrace of thorns and sadnesses just too overwhelming for me. it all started with Thurber's "Portrait of a Dog"... i was creamed by that one when i was about 10 or so. everything after that one has been measured against this little nuke of a story!! i'm glad that i was forewarned by this review!!! i just saw KR's first film (River of Grass, done in '93 ) and wanna go through the rest of her art/worx . RofG, by the way, is excellent, but it is really derivative of some other like-minded films of that era...especially Malick's Badlands. i mean, if i was a filmaker and some goofball sez, "ya know this reminds me of Terrence Malick's film " i would probably celebrate. at least.

A sorry tale which is a bit too slow moving.

The pace of this film is slow and the lighting at times leaves entire scenes practically in the dark. That being said, this movie does successfully capture the desperation and utter loneliness of the main character. On one hand, the movie is the story of Wendy’s love for her only companion. On the other, it expresses the loss of community in today’s society.

tragically ordinary pain, for lost generations to come

This movie is not for everyone. It slow paced and has no explosions or special effects, but I loved it just the same. If you have ever had a close relationship with a dog, this movie will break your heart. The main character Wendy gets into a predicament due to bad luck and her own stupidity and tries to piece her plans back together. The movie includes Michelle Williams and Will Patton. By the end of this movie I was a little bit of a snotty mess, but I am a sucker for any story that includes a dog.
