An oldie but a goodie. Adults may know Langton for her mystery series but this children's book will appeal as well, especially for those who love both historical fiction and fantasy. Third-grade readers through adults will enjoy, esp. fans of Alcott, Concord, and Walden.

Without a doubt, this is one of the most astounding and wonderful pieces of Children's literature that I ever had the fortune to read. It has always been a disappointment that so few libraries have copies of their own, especially editions with the original Erik Blegvad illustrations. Truly, a hidden gem (no pun intended), it will take any reader on a mystical adventure of epic proportions. It will inspire, educate, and enchant anyone with an active imagination.
