In the waning months of the second World War, a group of children discover an earthen tunnel in their neighborhood outside London. Throughout the summer of 1944, until one father forbids it, the subterranean space becomes their secret garden, where the friends play games and tell stories. Six decades later, beneath a house on the same land, construction workers uncover a tin box containing two skeletal hands, one male and one female.

I found this audio book on RB under the genre of mystery. It really isn't a mystery story at all. The details of the crime were laid out in chapter one. The remainder of the story involved the lives of these once children, now elderly adults, when the evidence is found. It is quite tedious in the middle section as you slog through to the end to find out the fate of the perpetrator. There was no justice at the end. Not recommended.

I haven't read her books before, but I ended up quite liking this one. It started out slowly for me and there is a rather large cast of characters, but my interest deepened as it went on. A few interesting turns.
