A good-hearted young man works at the local amusement park in NC and finds himself taken with a chilly cold case. Not a lot going on for half the book, but King dives so deep into the characters it's hard to complain about it. A satisfying mystery with some unexpected Shining connections. Highly recommended.

The book was okay I did have a hard time reading it but I finished the book. The end part the book was interesting. This was my first Stephen King book and I have to say I was a little bit disappointed!

Once again Stephen King writes a book that perfectly evokes a time gone by--in this case, 1973--with a twenty-one-year-old protagonist that reminded me of the wonderful hero from King's novel 11-22-63. Both of the heroes are sensitive and kind, yet very brave, and love women in a way that makes you want to step into the pages of the books and be with these men.

Joyland is an amusement park dedicated to giving people fun. Even though it's a "third-tier" park, they do their best to give folks a wonderful time, which I loved.

The plot is driven by the unsolved murder of a young woman who was murdered in a house of horror ride four years earlier.

At its core, Joyland eloquently depicts many types of love--parental love, passion, unrequited love, and enduring friendship.

I picked this up as i was walking by and was glad i did . I wanted something to fill the gap as i was waiting on another SK novel to show up in my reserve . I almost put it back thinking this would be a spooky carny story but i was completely and satisfactorily wrong . Was a quick read great story telling . I hope SK revisits this character with another story to tell from his youth would love to read more.

A small town amusement park as only Stephen King can depict it.

A Stephen King must read! It is a quick read and has plenty of punches packed in! Definitely check it out!

In an amusement park, helpful ghosts help the hero escape death and find the villain. Imaginative and fun to read.

Stephen King never disappoints. Tolstoy could have taken some points from him. :)

I really enjoyed this book quite a bit. I was unsure of what to expect since it was not a typical Stephen King book, but I have to say it flowed closer in a vein to The Body (Stand By Me,) than something like Carrie or Cujo. It was a well written story about college age kids and summer jobs in the Carnival type circuit. By the time that I was done with the book I actually felt like I was leaving friends behind. King is amazing at rounding out characters, even small roles that are only present for a few pages and making you feel as though you are really there and seeing all the things he is describing right along side of him. This is a really great book and I would highly recommend anyone looking for a fast read who may not enjoy all of the typical King "horror" aspects. This was basically just a really good story.

Wow, was not expecting this book to be so good. Strong thriller until the en, with just a touch of supernatural. Totally believable, very compassionate, tale of innocence lost but in a beautiful way. Classic Stephen King in great form.

When Stephen King meets "What I did on my summer vacation."

Add some premonitions and a mysterious murder to a hard-boiled story, and you have a good summer read. Just don't go to any amusement parks for a few days afterwards.
