"An illuminating look at the most tumultuous decade in the life of a rock icon--the only McCartney biography in decades based on firsthand interviews with the ex-Beatle himself. As the 1970s began, the Beatles ended, leaving Paul McCartney with only his wife Linda by his side. Holed up at his farmhouse in Scotland, he sank into a deep depression. To outsiders, he seemed like a man adrift--intimidated by his own fame, paralyzed by the choices that lay before him, cut loose from his musical moorings. But what appeared to be the sad finale of a glorious career was just the start of a remarkable second act. The product of a long series of one-on-one interviews with Scottish rock journalist Tom Doyle, this book chronicles McCartney's decade-long effort to escape the shadow of his past. From the bitter breakup of the Beatles to the wake-up call of John Lennon's murder, this is a revealing look at a sometimes frightening, often exhilarating period in the life of the world's most famous rock star."--Jacket.

I have always loved Paul's music- but I didn't know much about the time after he split with the Beatles.
Using Paul's own words and interviews with other musicians and acquaintances the author fills in the gaps between then and now.

When I saw this book on the NEW shelf I thought to myself "what else can they possibly say about this man?" I was, however surprised to find that it was interesting. It was more of a peek into Sir Paul's psyche during this time. I liked that it was not biased -- I felt it was true and didn't always talk about Paul in a positive light. I say if you are a true fan -- pick up this book!

all in all...........tedious. I was hoping for an entertaining glimpse into the post Beatle years, and got bored instead.
