Paris, 1969, one year after the French student uprising. Naomi Weiss, 21-year-old student of medieval history, stumbles upon a worm-eaten manuscript dated 1137. She suspects it belongs to the famous correspondence between philosopher Peter Abelard and his lover Heloise. A mysterious older woman who can't remember her own story overhears Naomi's conversations with two French feminists in a café. She secretly guides her young protegee away from the discouraging No of academia to the Yes of nature. Naomi's attempt to decipher the manuscript leads her to a garden where she finds the answer not in books but in vegetables.
