Rambling writing. Interesting premise but a slog to get through.

It takes some reading to decide what this book is about. The narrator is a woman who observes a couple every morning at coffee. When they fail to appear, she learns that the male has been brutally stabbed by a homeless man. The narrator speculates on life, death, and legacy as she finds herself drawn in to the murdered man's circle of acquaintances.
Marias is a thinker/philosopher and writes beautifully.
