Great cast, great soundtrack, based on a great book by Michael Chabon. As noted above (Capote) writers can make boring characters, but this tale of one action-packed weekend in the life of writer/professor Grady Tripp is a non-stop adventure of stolen cars, pregnant mistresses, transexual tuba pl... I enjoyed this movie very well for its ingenious writing, good acting of Michael Douglas and Toby McGuire. A comic Dazzier indeed. Hilarious story of bright promise gone out of control. Worthwhile to watch. I saw this movie 2 times already.

Based on the book by Michael Chabon, Curtis Hanson’s wonderfully literate, star-studded celebration of words, creativity, and bodies in flux flows across the screen in a succession of personal crises and bursts of inspiration, some comical some hitting at a deeper level. But it is the growing relationship between its two gifted authors (the “wonder boys” of the title) which makes for a compelling story, with the older, number professor feeling he’s past his expiry date while the younger student is barely able to withstand the experiences life is throwing at him. And everywhere there are images of transformation as wintry weather alternately thaws and freezes and bridges loom significantly in the background—the fact that an international Writers’ Festival is taking place at the same time is merely icing on the cake. Alternately very funny and quietly moving, "Wonder Boys" is one of those fortunate films where an able cast is handed a script worthy of their talent. Besides, how can you not like a film where a transvestite party date, a dead dog, and Marilyn Monroe’s leather jacket all play integral roles?

What a treat! It's a popcorn classic and gets a bizzaro rating of 4 green stars. Here a young man embarks on a literary adventure with his stony college professor. Enjoy this relaxing movie alone on a cold winter night. Try it with a herbal tea served hot.

Endearing story of washed up older writer and talented young one. This could potentially be rhetorical as it has been told several times already (recall Finding Forrester with Sean Connery and Shadows in the Sun with Joshua Jackson and Harvey Keitel). However, Michael Douglas gives a terrific performance as the wacky English professor/former author. He drives the viewer mad with his crazy antics and yet he is sympathetic and you can't help but root for him. Tobey Maguire and Frances McDormand also give strong performances as the young but almost autistic talent and the frustrated but loyal love interest, respectively. Gave it 4 stars because at some points the story didn't flow as smoothly and hand-held camera a bit irritating. Overall, quirky, funny and delivered by a strong cast...definitely worth watching.

Funny look at a has-been writer's life spiraling out of control. Acting and writing is fantastic.

Fun film, with intricate and complex characters, enjoyable with their twisted sense of humour and uneasy and unpredictable relationship. A great story of a man whose life was unravelling and how he chose to handle the aftermath.
