London, 1890. Edmund Carstairs is being menaced by a wanted criminal who seems to have followed him all the way from America. His home is robbed and his family is threatened. And then the first murder takes place. Almost unwittingly, Holmes and Watson find themselves being drawn ever deeper into an international conspiracy that connects the teeming criminal underworld of Boston to the gaslit streets of London. And as they dig, they begin to hear the whispered phrase "the House of Silk" -- a mysterious entity that joins the highest levels of government with the deepest depths of criminality. Holmes begins to fear that he has uncovered a conspiracy that threatens to tear apart the very fabric of society.

Having read his Moriarty book before this one, I was surprised at the variation between the 2.
I enjoyed the book and am glad the series has been re-booted. I did find this plot a tad dark for his first addition to the brand.

Amazing story and he really does Sir Arthur's works justice. One of my favorite books now for sure.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Feels very much like a Doyle story, though the novel's length does slow the pacing a lot compared to Sherlock's typical short-story format. This was a real page-turner for me-- i had trouble putting it down for even an hour at a time until I was through.

This is not for the faint of heart, nor for purists.

Two mysteries in one...a good whodunnit and well written and researched by the author. Recommended.

Arthur Conan Doyle purists may not like this one but it is an excellent novel on its own with a gripping and engaging flow. If you expect the equivalent of a "tribute band" clone (a la Brit Floyd), you might be disappointed. The author captures the style and narrative of the original Sherlock Holmes without trying to be a clone sort of like how the post-Ian Fleming versions of James Bond were based on the original. It deviates with its darker plot and content that would be too risque for Doyle and so is not suitable for younger readers unlike the originals.

A talented writer of the thriller genre set in different time periods and countries, Anthony Horowitz always provides a good read. I thought he captured Doyle's style of writing very well. I loved the touch of a white book marker...a string of silk perhaps. Suitable book for teens.

‘I really don’t know what to think, Mr Holmes,’ Lestrade muttered. ‘Well, that’s nothing new.
