Love the Sookieverse. Hate a lot of Alan Ball's changes to the books. I fast forwarded thru anything with The Authority, Terry's friend, the brujo stuff, the wolf pack stuff.... Not much Sookie & Eric at all in this season. PS This DVD set smells like cigarettes. It is super gross.

One of the better seasons. Interesting stories and I love seeing Christopher Malony again!

This is an above average show. The effects and acting are well above average for tv. However, the storyline has just gotten ridiculous and stale to me. I care so much less about the characters than I did, and that is a really bad thing. It's time to put this show out to pasture. This was a great show. Now it is just a spoof of itself. Still graphic and gory with plenty of sex/nudity.

The fifth season of True Blood is filled with plenty of blood and death as well as power struggles between vampire factions. The storyline takes a page out of the human fight between religious fundamentalists versus other believers and non-believers. For example, the vampires have their own version of a bible that purports that they are made in God's image and should maintain control over Earth. On the other hand many vampires wish to continue to come out of the shadows and become part of mainstream society. There are several storylines of hatred versus acceptance of those unlike themselves. Bill Compton and Eric Northman get stuck in the middle of the vampire uprising. Sookie and Jason Stackhouse, the fairies and Russell Edgington are key to the outcome of the intense and bloody firestorm engulfing the planet. Some of the original characters find their death in the bloody chaos. Besides all of the violence the series also injects hot sex and humor throughout the season. Clearly this season rates as one of the best.

This was considerably better than some of the previous seasons. They did a lot of interesting things with most of the regular cast members. I enjoy the humor they throw in, but I like for that humor to be within the context of storylines with a more serious tone. For a show like this, if it doesn't feel dangerous for the characters then I really can't get into it, and it doesn't feel real when things get too silly. I really hope that this season represents a new trend for the show, away from some of the silliness of preceding seasons. (The season with the Fellowship of the Sun cult was the worst for being absolutely silly.) This Season 5 is one of only two seasons of this show that I might watch again later on.
