The Good Fairies of New York tells the fish-out-of-water story of two Scottish thistle fairies who find themselves in Manhattan. The fairies hook up with two humans, Kerry (complete with colostomy bag) and Dinnie (antisocial in the extreme), finding time to help both get their acts together. A book that brings together race riots and Scottish folklore, The Good Fairies of New York is anything but a typical fairy fantasy.

A totally fun read.

I enjoyed this novel, but I felt like it tried a bit too hard to be hip. It includes, but is not limited to, such characters as a couple of bisexual scottish fairies, an overweight outcast pornography addict, an alcoholic hippie punk-music fan who is also a kleptomaniac and suffers from chrons' disease, and the ghost of a famous punk rock guitarist.
It is a fast-paced book, with a fun and involved plot. The clan-war-turned-riot scene at the end was definitely worth the read!

An unusual story about the escapades of foreign fairies living in current-day New York City, the multiple plot lines in this novel tie together with an unexpected twist at the end. Unfortunately, the editing is extremely rough, so reading the finished novel felt more like reading a galley or advance reader's copy than a published work. With tighter editing, this could be a great novel!
