"A vibrant world where friends and strangers dream, fear, cry, love, and laugh out loud in an attempt to find their true selves. Adapted by writer/director Tyler Perry from Ntozake Shange's acclaimed choreopoem, this gripping film paints an unforgettable portrait of what it means to be a woman of color in the modern world"--Container.

I turned it off because I didn't want to watch the abusive parts, but then I turned it back on and watched until the wonderful end. the poetry just washes over you.

The essential theme of the movie is the human experience learning about "life" (especially other people in life) the hard way. Most of the men in the movie incite pain, rage and major empowerment issues. Some might find issue with this -- regardless all of the "bad" men are represented unfortunately in the real world.

This is also an artistic movie -- it might have fared better as an animation as in my eyes film often has difficulty capturing the vibrancy and subtle versions of "real" color.

This is a creative attempt to combine dance, poetry and film in a real story. Like any film it has mixed results.

Unexpectedly compelling movie! Quite emotional and revealing about the hidden pain some women carry with them.

Tyler Perry has done a phenomenal job with the twisting and deep poems of Ntozake Shange. This film is at times hard to watch, but the meaning behind the words are powerful and worth hearing. It is not so much the acting, but the presence of each actress that really carries the sentiment throughout the film.

I thought the movie was good but some of the poems they were using i didn't really understand and the ending was okay

Fair - For Colored Girls (2010) 133 min. Probably the only film by Tyler Perry I truly didn't appreciate; the same film is probably his most serious work. Some of the stories are horrific in nature and the one thing that the women of the film have in common is that they suffer and suffer and suffer. The film is bathed in misery; I couldn't wait to watch an episode of The Big Bang Theory just to wash off the somber mood I found myself in. Note, the film is based on a series of poems and at times the characters fall into soliloquies reciting lines from the poem that really doesn't fit with the rest of the dialogue and may be off-putting at times. Not for everyone's taste.
