Sweet mother moses! GAH – what just happened? Oh my, what an incredibly powerful, mind-blowing, pride-crippling, yet also a painfully tender and honest look into the human heart and mind. Perhaps one of the very best books I’ve ever read that smacks you repeatedly in the face with clear and poignant discussions on:

PTSD (shell shock specially), war, society, class structure, addiction, politics, love, family, money, religion, spirituality, murder, the paranormal, The United States of America, WWI, The Great Depression, post WWI Europe, personal freedom, forgiveness, lack of forgiveness, gender roles, and simply Growing Up… just to name a few things…

AND THEN the book is over and it’s like waking up from one of those very intense dreams where, although you slept for, like, 12 hours, you still feel as if you hadn’t sleep at all. Instead, you feel you’ve traveled the world a hundred times over and lived a thousand lives.
