When rag doll 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone. It is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the newest member of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive and they will need to discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. The very future of civilization may depend on them.

This is a 2009 American adult computer animated post-apocalyptic science fantasy directed by Shane Acker.
Although superb is its animation with nice and sophisticated visuals, the story doesn't appear well-developed.
Actually the end isn't really its end, which is the starting point of the future the audience really would like to see after all the struggles.
In any case, the film looks visually spectacular.
However, the film seems long on imaginative design but less substantial in narrative.

CG garbage that's only worth the lowest rating possible.

Unmemorable is the word I would use to describe 9. I saw it in theatres several years back and it's as if I hadn't seen it at all. I remember not liking it. And looking back at what I wrote back then when it was fresh in my mind, I described the film as bleak and boring with no conclusion, as if the writers didn't know how to finish their own script. I don't intend to watch it again, so I suppose I don't recommend it.

When I saw the trailer for this, I knew I was going to be in for a ride. And wow, did I get what I asked for!
9 was a movie I've never watched before. It kept me asking questions, wondering what the characters were going to do and how all of this was tied to what happened to the world.
This movie was absolutely fabulous and I will definitely watch this again!

I've been waiting to watch it for quite some time, and when I did, it was much better than I expected.
The characters were beautifully developed and the story was intriguing.
I enjoyed this movie a TON!
5 stars.

It was pretty dark for me watching characters who I weirdly deeply cared about get their souls sucked out of them when I was a kid. 3 out of 5.

I enjoyed this film, but it had the feeling of a sketch to me. I felt that some of its story elements were not developed enough.

I thought when 9 inserted the magic circle, which he knew nothing about, he didn't think at all about the consequences and was stupid for doing so because of what happens in the rest of the movie. I don't think he should be cheered on for saving the rest of the "community" and the souls. A little too witchcrafty for me. I guess the line between witchcraft and science blurs sometimes nowadays.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the movie was creative and original nonetheless. But I couldn't help but have mixed feelings.

Believe me, I'm really trying to be fair-minded here, but, the truth is, when it comes to 9's painfully predictable story, its sheer lack of originality was a severe compromise simply for the sake of an overload of CGI effects.

Containing way-way too many mechanical-monster attacks, 9's story arrogantly talks about the "human soul" and actually dares to suggest that this tale is so much deeper than just being a sum total of all of its near-endless explosions.

I don't know about you, but I really resent the fact that this $30 million production has Tim Burton's name attached to it as an obvious (and underhanded) marketing ploy. I can't help but wonder how much Burton got paid to promote 9 in this fashion.

You know, it really figures that 9 was directed by Shane Acker who was also the same narrow-visioned hack responsible for that other fiasco film, Oz, The Great And Powerful.

Oh, well - Any way you look at it, 9 just didn't add up to satisfactory entertainment for me.
