Chris Bohjalian, author of Oprah-pick Midwives, has written another spellbinding novel set in a small town in Vermont. Told by four different narrators, Secrets of Eden explores the mystery surrounding the murder-suicide of huband and wife, George and Alice. The seemingly clear-cut case begins to draw suspicion, and through the eyes of the four narrators, we are taken into the past of these two characters and those who surround them—their pastor, Stephen Drew, daughter Katie, a visiting author who writes about angels, and the district attorney who is trying to determine what really happened that Sunday night that George and Alice lost their lives. This is a rich character study, rife with religious imagery, and a plot that keeps you turning pages. The theme of domestic abuse is chilling, but there is also hope for the survivors.

Disappointing. I enjoyed his earlier books much more. He's too "Jodi Picoult"-ish!
