Sam Phillips's brand of under-the-radar pop, so good, so smart yet so easily overlooked and taken for granted, is on full display on 2008's "Don't Do Anything." This is a lovely, sharp-witted album that, like most of what Phillips puts out, just contains a lot of great songs. "My Career in Chemistry", "Flowers Up" and "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us" are some of the best songs here, representative of the kind of off-kilter pop Phillips does best.
