The President rushes across the South Lawn of the White House to Marine One to fly to Camp David late at night. His advisers plead with him not to fly during the pounding thunderstorm, but he insists. The helicopter crashes into a ravine in Maryland, killing all aboard. The government blames the European manufacturer of the helicopter and accuses them of killing the president. Senate Investigations and Justice Department accusations multiply as Mike Nolan, a Marine Corps reserve helicopter pilot and trial attorney in civilian life, is hired to defend the company from the criminal investigations, then from a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the most notorious lawyer in America on behalf of the First Lady.

I know we live in the times of hellish privatization and American plutocracy and American oligarchs and American hegemony, but this is the most stupid premise for a fictional thriller imaginable.

I really liked this audiobook. It kept me listening when I really should have been doing other things. Loved the gravely voice of the reader.

"On its way to a top-secret meeting at Camp David, the helicopter carrying the president crashes, killing everyone on board. Annapolis attorney Mike Nolan is hired by the helicopter's manufacturer to defend it against lawsuits, but the more that Mike learns, the more questions he has. First of all, was there a mechanical defect, or was the helicopter sabotaged? And why was the president headed to Camp David - in a terrible storm - for a meeting that only three people knew about? Fans of techno-thrillers, legal thrillers, and political thrillers should find this a compelling read." A court room, military, political and corporate thriller. Highly recommend, 8 of 10 for me.

This political thriller really turns up after a slow and somewhat tedious start. You won't want to stop once you get to the second half. 8 of 10 stars
