In a divided country on the verge of war, two childhood friends, Amir and Hassan, are about to be torn apart forever. It's a glorious afternoon in Kabul and the skies are bursting with the exhilarating joy of a kite-fighting tournament. But in the aftermath of the day's victory, one boy's fearful act of betrayal will mark their lives forever and set in motion an epic quest for redemption. Now, after twenty years of living in America, Amir returns to a perilous Afghanistan under the Taliban's iron-fisted rule to face the secrets that still haunt him and take one last daring chance to set things right.

This is a 2007 American drama directed by Marc Forster, based on the novel of the same name by Khaled Hosseini.
It tells the story of Amir, a well-to-do boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who is tormented by the guilt of abandoning his friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant.
The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet military intervention, the mass exodus of Afghan refugees to Pakistan and the United States.
It is a tragic, heartbreaking yet heartwarming-at-end story with fateful twists and turns.

A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "A moving story about life in Afghanistan before the Taliban. They had a rich, comfortable life -- but had to narrowly escape to the US. A story of love and betrayal."

Two boys who share a kite living in Afghanistan. The boys love working as a team and are winning the kite flying contests in Kabul. Without giving away the plot and ending, this is a story of two boys loyalty to each as they grow up. I loved the two boys in action with the kite. The family scenes were very inspiring. Everyone is the film is terrific and the photography of shots over Kabul of the kites is amazing. I couldn't recommend it more!

The book is better, deep and astonishing, makes you live every feeling in your heart. Same feelings with "A thousand splendid suns". Kite Runner the movie, seems to be incomplete at times it lacks many important moments.

I found this film which is based on a novel of the same name by Khaled Hosseini to be quite a powerful and convincing portrait of the perilous life and moral strictures faced by two young boys growing up in Afghanistan, with those moral strictures even carrying on into adult life in the United States. I would expect the story was closely based on personal experiences of the author Khaled Hosseini.

A very powerful film pitting loyalty against family pride. A powerful view of what Kabul used to be before the Russians and Taliban tore Afghanistan to shreds.

Baba: There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft... When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness.
