I read this book for the "A Foreign Book Translated Into English" part of my 2018 reading challenge. It was ok, but I found Pippi a bit annoying. I know being headstrong and quirky is her charm, it just didn't do it for me.
An absolute delight. Whether you are reading this to yourself or to a child, you will laugh at Pippi's adventures, smile at Lauren Child's illustrations, and will yourself to be living the life that Pippi has. I mean - what 9-year-old wouldn't want to be living by themselves with a pet monkey and a horse on their front porch?!
Pippi is a great role-model for all girls everywhere.
That story is sad becasue her mother died and she is in heaven by now and becomes a angel. Her father was the sailor captain and then the terrible storm came and he died.So sad.Pippi is alone with her pet monkey and she moved to Villa Ville house.
This is a new translation of the first book about Pippi Longstocking. It's not that different from the original English translation from some decades ago, a few different word-choices is all I noticed, but the new illustrations by Lauren Child are a delight. Pippi Longstocking is a great, laugh-out-loud story to read to your child or to a class, and is reallly good choice for a child reading novels on their own as well.
