A 150-minute movie protracted to a six-hour mini-series about an evil stranger, Andre Linoge (Colm Feore), who comes to town to exploit and terrorize the locals with his supernatural powers, the embodiment of all the darknesses innate to that community. Somber music and demonic imagery plod forebodingly through this snow bound town without any respite from the tedium, like a winter hiker without snowshoes.

This is a Made- For -TV movie adaptation of Stephen King's novel- it's a bit long and stretches things out - but it does have a certain charm to it. I actually enjoyed it much more the second time I watched it.

it's full of surprises and lets you know how much dirt goes on in small towns villages and even island comunities

It's really surprising the reviewer below rated this so poorly. I checked on IMDB.com and more than 11,000 reveiwers rated it 7.2 out of 10. I rated it almost exactly the same, at 3.5 out of 5. Anybody who enjoys reading stephen king, should like this just fine. It is a mini-series, so it obviously has a lower budget, but much of this picture is dialog driven and doesn't rely heavily on special effects, so the lower budget certainly doesn't ruin the story for the viewer. Colm Feore who plays Andre Linoge (the bad guy) really stands out. He definitely gave a menacing performance that I think most people will enjoy. I actually wouldn't mind buying a copy of this one for my dvd collection.
