It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it. And then reality set in. The odds caught up with Mr. Pierrepoint, and hit him close to home. Quite a story.

2007. One can see the difference in performance of 3 brilliant actors, if one has interest in their careers. Based on historical acts of UK capital punishment, abolished in 1965. Worth a followup on events, people involved, the controversy of this punishment. Pros/cons of death penalty.

This is an excellent film, based on the life of Albert Pierrepoint, the Last Hangman in Britain. His work begins as he follows in the footsteps of his father and uncle as executioner. Pierrepoint isn't immediately forthcoming with neighbors at the pub about what he does for a living, but as his career moves on, he's called in for some high profile executions in the wake of WW11 and the Nuremberg Trials. Actor Timothy Spall (best known for many film roles including parts in the Harry Potter series and Still Crazy) brings out the nuances as Pierrepoint tries to struggle with emotions of life and death.
