Add a Quote""Be honored, Percy Jackson. Lord Zeus rarely allows me to test a hero with one of my brood. For I am the Mother of Monsters, the terrible Echidna!"
I stared at her. All I could think to say was: "Isn't that a kind of anteater?"" - The Lightning Thief
""Meat!" he said scornfully. "I'm a vegetarian."
"You eat cheese enchiladas and aluminium cans," I reminded him.
"Those are vegetables."" - The Lightning Thief
""Another time, Athena and Poseidon competed to be the patron god for the city of Athens. Your dad created some stupid saltwater spring for his gift. My mom created the olive tree. The people saw that her gift was better, so they named the city after her. "
"They must really like olives."" - The Lightning Thief
" If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself." - Sally Jackson
"Ares has strength. That's all he has.
Even strength has to
bow to wisdom sometimes." - Annabeth
I saw a lot out there in the world, Percy. Didn’t you feel it—the darkness gathering, the monsters growing stronger? Didn’t you realize how useless it all is? All the heroics—being pawns of the gods. They should’ve been overthrown thousands of years ago, but they’ve hung on, thanks to us half-bloods.
" 'How did you die?'
'We er...drowned in a bathtub.'
'All three of you?'
'It was a big bathtub.' "
Summary
Add a SummaryMiddle school student Percy Jackson fears getting expelled (AGAIN) when he destroys one of his teachers after she transforms into a Fury and tries to murder him. However, his troubles are only beginning. His best friend Grover reveals himself to be a satyr and tells Percy he is in mortal danger. Percy's mother, Sally, rushes Percy and Grover to the mysterious Camp Half-Blood but is attacked by a minotaur and disappears in a golden light. Percy kills the minotaur, but fears that his mother is dead. At Camp Half-Blood, Percy discovers that his favorite teacher is actually Chiron, the centaur who trained many Ancient Greek heroes. Percy and the other campers are all half-bloods- the children of a greek god or goddess and a mortal parent. After Percy is claimed by his father Poseidon, he sets out on a quest with Grover and Annabeth, a daughter of Athena, to locate Zeus's missing master bolt before Zeus and Poseidon (whom Zeus believes is the thief) go to war. Together they face off against Medusa, Echidna, the Furies, and even Ares, the god of war himself. After a visit with Hades helps Percy realize he's been set up by Ares, he finds the master bolt and must return it to Zeus before the Summer Solstice. If he's successful, not only will he prevent a war among the gods, but he may also save his mother, who is being held captive in the underworld. This is the first in a 5 book series about Percy and his friends.
Percy Jackson was never a "normal" kid-always getting in trouble and switching schools, just trying to fit in. When strange things start happening and a teacher attacks him, claiming that he is a thief, Percy's whole world was turned upside down when he finds out he is more than just a kid-and the "gods" are more than just myths. Grover, a spunky satyr, Annabeth, a determined teen, and and Percy, a relentless newbie proceed to go on a grand adventure to clear Percy's name.
Percy Jackson, a 11 year-old boy discovered that he is a demigod with the abilities to control water and all this comes from his father,Poseidon.
Grade 6 student Percy Jackson thinks he's human. Sure, a dyslexic human with ADHD, but still a human. But he's wrong. Percy is really a half-blood, a mix between a Greek God and a human. And his best friend, whom he also thought was human, is half goat.
Percy Jackson, an ADHD and a dyslexic boy, struggles to find a school that will except him. With the help of his friend, Grover, he finds out that he is a demigod, but loses his mom on the way. Devastated, Percy and Grover go to Camp Half-Blood where Percy finds out that he is the son of Poseidon. His father and Zeus are fighting because Zeus thinks Poseidon has stole his master bolt. Percy then goes on a quest to find the master bolt with Grover and Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena. Percy faces Medusa, Hades, and even battle it out with Ares, to get the master bolt. On the way Percy gets his mom back. Percy then goes to Olympus to give back the master bolt and meets his father. He tells everyone about his adventures. The gods think that Cronus is rising. Meanwhile Percy goes back and finds out that Luke, son of Hermes and friend of Percy, is actually a follower of Cronus. Luke then attempts to kill Percy, but fails. This is the beginning of the war between the demigods and Cronus.

Comment
Add a CommentI highly recommend this book for reluctant readers in your classroom! As a retired teacher, I found that this book never failed to hook my 4th grade readers. It is a rather lengthy book, but worth the read-aloud time. Sometimes, I would read aloud the first few chapters and then let the kids check out their own book to finish it.
Percy Jackson is one of the best books I've ever read, simply because of how a 6th grader has all of this pressure on them and still faces a god (spoiler) a even defeats one. I also love Grover and Percy's relationship, and how it continues on in the story.
Wow, started reading these book 3 years ago and have re-read them too many times and I still love the series. Read almost all books from rick riordan after and loved those too! Second best author in the world.
This was one of the first book series that i loved.
This was the first series book that I was really attached to and liked. Since I was in the 4th grade, which was 7 years back now, I've followed along with all of the books and after finishing reading "The Tower of Nero", it's hard to believe so much has happened since Percy first entered Camp Half-Blood. With the 3 series' finished, I can only hope that there will be more to come and a TV series (that I hope comes sooner rather than later) to look forward to as well !
Percy Jackson is the best book ever. All of them are really good, this one I think is not my favorite. But it is a classic! EVERY book in this series is good duh!
Absolutely the G.O.A.T book series ever!! The most fantabulus series in the universe
Percy Jackson is a seemingly normal 12-year-old child with ADHD and dyslexia, but he is plunged into the world of Greek mythology when monsters attack him. His first meeting with these monsters is when Furies sent from Hades command him to return Zeus’ lightning bolt. Once his mother finds out, she sends him to the only safe place for demigods before she is dragged to the Underworld by the Minotaur. Here, he finds out that his true father is Poseidon, God of the Seas.
Unfortunately for Percy, 60 years ago there was a pact between The Big Three, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. Due to demigod children of these three Gods being too powerful for mortals, the pact was created to prevent them from ever having demigod children again, but Hades was the only god who did not break the pact. When Zeus’ lightning bolt is stolen, Zeus accuses Poseidon for stealing it with the help of Percy, and orders that he return it by the summer solstice. Poseidon, in turn, demands an apology for his accusation by the same date since he is innocent. To prevent a devastating civil war between the gods, Percy must now find which god is the true thief and return the lightning bolt to Zeus. By doing this, he can rescue his mother who is being held captive in the Underworld until the lightning bolt is returned.
In my opinion, this is a great book to start reading books by Rick Riordan. It is because of this book that I have now read every Rick Riordan series. It has a well-paced and well thought out plot. Very action packed, and excellent if you like mythology, or fantasy in general.
Ages: 12+
AMAZING!!!!! It is really nice. People who like fantasy, humor and adventure books should read this. I totally recommend this!!!!
I remember loving these books as a kid, and I even went to a book signing event with Rick Riordan for his last installment in the sequel following Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It's in this book where we are introduced to Percy Jackson himself, and find out he's a demigod. That means he's a descendant of one of the gods, and his happens to be Poseidon. This will cause further problems for him at his new camp, and send him on a quest to retrieve Zeus's missing lightning bolt after being accused of stealing it. Our first look into the world of the Greek gods is just the beginning of numerous thrilling installments.
