Noir adaptation of a novel particularly unsuitable for adaptation.

The second-best graphic novel adaptation of another work that I've read (the first is Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson's "Alien: The Illustrated Story") because it enriches my experience of the original. The panel where Daniel Quinn suffers a metaphorical spear through the heart at seeing Paul Auster's happy young family is especially commendable.
