I've never heard music like Pärt's. His requiem mass--the first five or six tracks of this CD--has a dark ethereal quality, definitely reminiscent of medieval Gregorian chant. The basic melody is simple and repetitive, which some might find dull, but which also contributes to the feeling of surreality. By far my favorite track on the CD was "And One of the Pharisees," which perfectly renders a well-known story of the Gospels, with chilling and mystical beauty.
