I LOVED THIS BOOK. Something about the claustrophobic/confined nature of airplane travel. I think it's one of his underrated books. Sure, it's hokey and derivative, but in the hands of Mr. Follett, transcends its soapiness. Highly recommended.

The book was so good the whole way through. I couldn't put it down and I admired Follett's style of writing completely, finding almost no faults in it. However, the ending of the book was simply terrible. There was no room for inference as Follett just straight up told the reader what was happening, with little description. It seemed rushed and ruined the entire book for me. I would recommend reading all of the book except for the last 5 chapters or so and then read the plot summary on wikipedia to find out what happens next.

In 1939, with war just declared, a group of privileged people board the most luxurious airliner ever – the Pan American Clipper, bound for New York: an English aristocrat, a German scientist, a murderer under escort, a young wife escaping her husband and a charming, unscrupulous thief. For thirty hours, there is no escape from the flying palace. Over the Atlantic, tension mounts and finally explodes in a dramatic and dangerous climax.
