Simple and emotionally impactful, 'The Lunchbox' treats us to a sweet story where two people build a seemingly small connection with notes in their work lunch. Due to chance and a willingness to hear the other's perspective they soon…

A well-acted nicely crafted melodrama in which an unhappy wife and a retiring widower exchange letters in the lunch box and eventually each discovers a new sense of self. Sensitively warm and subtle.

In the Special Feature with the filmmaker, he shared that he’d made a documentary about the Tiffin deliverers. That in all the [HUGE] number of dabbas delivered every day, they always go to the right place. He thought “if one was to be…

I thought this movie was brilliant. Reminded me a little of the Turkish movie Steam that you can watch on Kanopy. Both subtle and thoughtful.

This is a bitter-sweet film about beginnings and endings. More bitter than sweet; and more endings than beginnings. One could see it as an exploration of ways marriages can end: through affairs, illness, and death. There is one marriage;…

The simple mix-up of a lunch box leads into a more and more complex relationship between the main characters. "When life sends you lemons, make lemonade", is the lesson of this dramatic movie.

Lunchboxes get mixed up and a friendship grows. This Indian romantic film hits all the right notes and makes your mouth water at the same time.

Mumbai is filmed in all its gritty chaotic glory, subtle Bollywood tunes provide the lightest of dramatic touches, and lovingly prepared meals become as intimate as a caress, but it is the notes themselves which anchor the film—hastily…

Comedy/drama life story with reflections on unfulfilled expectations - very subtle characters and joyful plot. Awesome actors and some scenes with documentary-like background.

I usually only review books, but then a really exceptional film like this one comes along, and I feel no one should pass this by. I did not want the film to end. It is clever, funny, warm and has not even a touch of all the usual…

A "slice of life" comedy/drama in which a comical situation leads to much soul-searching. Very subtle acting; mostly through expressions.

"The Lunchbox" proves that Bollywood is more than song and dance. It is a touching, storytelling kind of movie. I had hoped for an American-style ending–where the wife leaves the cheating lout and the new couple live happily ever…

Simply the best movie to come out of India. A charming love story that begins over switched lunches delivered to the wrong client. This movie was shut out of the Oscars because ironically the Indian film industry thought it was…

Sensitive, beautiful story of decent human beings struggling with loneliness. Very good pacing, meaningful story and dialogue, great acting. Refreshing.

Too bad about the subtitles not visible - "Eject Button!"

I think I would have liked the movie, but with subtitles white on white, could only read a few words, gave up.

Lovely, sweet movie. I agree with all the "positive" comments, they are well written and expressed. RE: the "negative" comments: must be from people who have never been lonely or wondered "what if" and who've never wanted or needed or…

I had high expectations and came out disappointed. I could not relate to the culture, the environment or the characters. I found it quite boring and the ending is open ended. Felt that only a good ending could save the movie, and it did…

The loner stood in his dim balcony buffing cigarette and stealing looks to the lively dining room in the building across. His mind was fixed on the daily life-line of folded piece of paper ducked under the chapatti. He stood isolated from…

I loved this movie. It could have gone on for another 1000 hours and I would still have watched it. What made this movie so wonderful was how each character broadened the other's horizons and made them realize what was possible and what…

When I checked it out I knew it was a total cat-lady movie, but had hoped for some vicarious travel or cultural insights. Nope. The film really went NOWHERE and then went BACK and FORTH and BACK... You get the idea. A repetitive snore…

An enjoyable feel-good movie! An "adult" version of " You've Got Mail". I was very impressed with the acting, especially the female lead. Would enjoy seeing another movie with her in it.
