Logic left Def Jam Recordings in 2022 with the release of his album Vinyl Days. This is his first album going independent, and the shift is somewhat underwhelming.
CONS: Every single Logic LP up until this one this one had some sort of formula. College Park carries no musical theme. It’s a mishmash of genres, and, regardless of how well executed each style is, its jumps from indie-rock to trap to boom bap seem clunky and disorganized. Outside of being an independent album, I’m not quite clear what College Park is supposed to mean in Logic’s discography.
The production is hit or miss, and certain raps (e.g., “Redpill VII,” “Cruisin’ Through the Universe”) feel unfinished and are subsequently abrupt. There is an imbalance of too much and not enough throughout College Park.
The skits are stilted, long winded, and occasionally unnecessary. While I understand the enhancement effect Logic was going for, the acting isn’t all that good, and skits about smoking marijuana or threatening to rob the register at a convenience store don’t add to the storyline. In fact, because of these fillers, the album comes to an unceremonious, confusing halt.
PROS: Logic’s good songs are unapologetically… good. When he nails the production, the music, and the overall vibe, he nails it. The incredible highs are what saves College Park from a 3-star review. Tracks like “Ayo” or “Self-Medication” really accentuate Logic’s singing ability (in the former track) and his musical diversity (in the latter track) without him being over the top about branching out. Logic’s music is better when he’s different and doesn’t try to tell you he’s being different.
The narrative of College Park (Logic, circa 2011) depicts a very insecure rapper who wants to make a name for himself. This is an empowering juxtaposition for Logic today, who can experiment freely and feel secure as a musician. Logic’s overall flow on College Park is well practiced and distinguished, and the beats are layered and intricate. Features are a balanced mix of local and mainstream artists.
Overall, College Park is an ambitious independent debut. However, Logic is almost too comfortable, to the point of slipping in unnecessary add-ons. If he can balance his creativity, this indie path will give us a secure, relaxed version of Logic we’ve hardly ever seen.Logic left Def Jam Recordings in 2022 with the release of his album Vinyl Days. I really have been wanting to write about Vinyl Days for awhile now, as I’m a HUGE Logic fan. However, it was really hard to collect my thoughts regarding this release.
At first listen, I have to admit I expected a lot from Logic (as his album prior to Vinyl Days, 2020’s No Pressure, is my favorite album of his). I probably anticipated too much.
But I ruminated on this project many times. On that note, let’s talk pros and cons:
PROS:
1. Logic embraced his, quote, “boom bap sh*t” (as he calls it). The percussive, acoustic, bass-driven musical style was prominent on No Pressure, and I remember loving the sound of all these bouncy drums. I appreciate that “boom bap” was Logic’s focus on Vinyl Days.
2. The production and effects on his voice is very professional, and the flow is oftentimes on beat.
3. On a similar note, the lyrics accompanying the flow are personal, clever, and speedy.
4. Morgan Freeman stars in the Vinyl Days intro. I don’t think I have to add to this pro. 👍🏻
CONS:
Most of the pros are also related to the cons.
1. The “boom bap” style is overused for a 30-track album. As this is his final release on Def Jam, I would prefer a variety of styles that encompasses Logic as a musician.
2. Rhymes are recycled throughout Vinyl Days, and the flow is occasionally inconsistent.
3. Beats/samples are interesting, but sometimes, they are sloppy and jumbled.
4. Phone call skits are distracting and awkwardly break up the songs. It’s an interesting concept, but could be executed better.
Favorite tracks: “Tetris,” “Quasi,” “Therapy Music,” “Kickstyle” “Ten Years,” and “Vinyl Days.”I really have been wanting to write about Vinyl Days for awhile now, as I’m a HUGE Logic fan. However, it was really hard to collect my thoughts regarding this release.

Watched this movie in theater, and do not understand the hype.
Characters are underdeveloped, almost devoid of personality. Every new character is just a name on a sweaty helmet.
The plot is somewhat delved into, but is very thin. As the storyline was introduced early in the movie but never recapped, this ultimately makes for a confusing experience.
With settings that are repetitious and overused, Maverick is really just a modernized reincarnation of its predecessor, Top Gun. The only difference between the two films is that the original felt fresh. This new Top Gun installment is, bluntly, a sellout, just a halfhearted retelling and a sequel that came twenty years too late. The only reason Maverick is a box office hit is because of one name: Tom Cruise, the Hollywood hot stuff. The original Top Gun caught Cruise at his breakout, whereas Maverick is just a nostalgia-fueled Cruise cash-grab.
Overall, this movie needs major character advancement, more casual scenes meant for a deeper connection, of which the first Top Gun pulled off. To leave on a positive note, I could see the few scenes in Maverick that were thought out with wonderful execution, and the new soundtrack is far more superior, showcasing an expanded musical budget.
However, I would not recommend this movie, unless you’re REALLY into fighter jets and lots of F-14 talk. If not, don’t get on this highway to the danger zone known as Top Gun: Maverick.Watched this movie in theater, and do not understand the hype.

It has been two years since Georgia Rosenbloom’s father, a well-known and established artist, passed away. Georgia feels a level of discomfort, knowing that her father’s work is always displayed to the public, yet many people didn’t know him deeply like she or her mother did, only noted for his striking modern art. When going through an unseen portfolio of her dad’s sketches, which her mother pulled out for a highly anticipated exhibition of “Hank Rosenbloom: Artist and Man”, Georgia looks inside and finds a sketch of herself. Georgia wants this sketch to stay privately with her… but then she’s convinced that the picture is something more then just a sketch…the last in a series of asterism paintings, due to little dots on the back. Will Georgia find enough evidence to support her theory that she, in fact, was supposed to be her dad’s last asterism painting before he died?It has been two years since Georgia Rosenbloom’s father, a well-known and established artist, passed away. Front Desk had potential. Looking at the cover and reading the inside dust jacket, I was expecting something whimsical from author Kelly Yang, like a Kate DiCamillo-style quirkiness.
I opened the book up to read tales about alleged racism (written with many contradictions), stories of immigrants, the protagonist’s mother getting beat up, and school drama. None of this I inherently mind. However, those situations never amounted to anything. Story after story leads me to think all of this is pointless.
The Author’s Note says it all: Yang was raised like the ten-year-old protagonist Mia Tang. The fictitious character and the author both worked in a motel as children, faced unfortunate circumstances, and were both challenged by life as an immigrant in America, often sneaking fellow immigrants into the motel. It would’ve been helpful to have the Author’s Note in the beginning of the book, so I could follow with the story, connect with it, or just simply realize how important Yang’s story is. Then I would realize the importance of Mia’s story, my mind having read real life events beforehand, grasping the plotline more.
As protagonist Mia is Chinese, I would have found Front Desk to be more impactful if the book was set in China. This would then bring a more educational approach to Americans, instead of just inserting little tidbits about China throughout the story. Plus, this would make Kelly Yang’s view of America less upfront and harsh.
I am still boggled by the ending. The secondary antagonist, Jason, all of a sudden turned into a good guy. If this kid was a jerk to Mia throughout the entirety of this book, why would he change at the end? I found that, without reading the Author’s Note, during the end is when the book started to pick up its pace, and even then, the remainder of the plotline felt hurried.
Would I recommend this book? Not intensely, but if you go to the back of Front Desk and read the Author’s Note first, the story may hit different. If you don’t read the Author’s Note first, you will be left feeling like the events in the book don’t add up to the story.Front Desk had potential. Hamilton: The Revolution goes behind the scenes with the writer of this Broadway success, Lin-Manuel Miranda, plus Jeremy McCarter. This book is a must have if you want to memorize the lyrics of Hamilton (which, admittedly, I do. It’s a little karaoke, guys).
What’s most enticing and addictive about this read are the meanings behind the lyrics. Lin fills the footnotes with personal, historical, humorous, and honest tidbits of information. Though frustrating at times, it’s relieving to see Lin admit to inaccurate lyrics about history. He repeated that there just wasn’t enough space to fit in everything that happened centuries ago. (I could easily argue that Lin just make a triple disc CD set. At the very least, this could expand the play, and give us some new songs that are irresistibly singable)!
Insightful and conveying. Full of exclusive perspectives. Definitely would recommend Hamilton: The Revolution. Though, with all the shifting history around and leaving out certain details, I’d be up for a Hamilton sequel!

Interesting, cute storyline. A very basic Summary: Pavi Sharma helps kids who are going to new homes adjust to being somewhere else. She treats this like a business, and her “clients” pay her in junk food and school materials. Unique, right?
The issue is characters like Pavi’s foster brother, Hamilton, and Hamilton’s school friend Piper. These people serve ultimately no purpose in the plot. The author, Bridget Farr, tries to make these useless characters useful to the story, by putting them in situations where they may seem helpful towards the protagonist or just simply like comedic relief. If unnecessary characters served more of a purpose (rather than being stand-ins), I’d come to appreciate and maybe even connect with them. But the way they don’t serve a purpose, I don’t really care about connecting or appreciating.
Furthermore, the plot line could have gone deeper than it actually did. When the author tells me that somebody is in danger, but the only dangerous element she gives me is dogfights, I don’t feel like I should be scared or even rooting for the protagonist. That’s really just horrible! To a small kid, reading about simple dogfights might scare them, but this book is written for middle school, and for a middle schooler like me, I’m not scared.
Overall, Bridget Farr brought a good mixture of heartwarming and comedy to the table with Pavi Sharma’s Guide to Going Home. What she didn’t bring, however, was enough plot, substance, and general reader connection to really pull out the comedy and heartwarming and make them seem worthwhile when the whole book is overwrought and not fleshed out enough. Disappointed and wouldn’t read it again, lest I wanted to see the clouded potential.Interesting, cute storyline. The Worst Class Trip ever was WORSE than the Worst Night Ever.
Interesting, unique plot just like this books sequel. However, I also like this book sequel, the plot never propelled anywhere interesting, and the only reason I kept reading it was in the hopes that it would get better.
There is too much filler, too much “oh, what do we do now”? When a friend of the protagonist is in peril, there is not enough action. The characters try to formulate a plan so often that eventually it just starts to bore me to tears, becoming extremely schticky. If the characters are going to take action, it should be more decisive, less putsy.
Speaking of action, most of the parts in the book that were supposed to make you feel in suspense, or just rooting for the lead character, just ended up feeling clouded by strain.
The plot was interesting…but in the end, the villains turned into OK guys. I really dislike when stuff like that happens! There wasn’t even a good, or clever, explanation as to why the batteries turned into good guys. There was no reason for them to change. It would’ve been better if they simply didn’t.
Basically, interesting plot, just executed extremely poorly, dragged out for WAY too long, and ending very weakly. I couldn’t even get all the way through without skipping a few pages.
If you want to know about the plot, you can check out the book yourself, but, in my opinion, it’s just not worth the read. The Worst Class Trip ever was WORSE than the Worst Night Ever.

Groundbreaking. Unchains the boundaries of your usual Broadway play. Lin-Manual Miranda took a risky turn, especially considering that the category of Musicals are filled with vibrato and strings.
No, no, no. Hamilton prefers to go down the path of 808s. Modern, yet I can see this being a classic well into 2025.
Songs featuring King George III, like “You’ll Be Back” or “I Know Him,” are always fun, upbeat, and cheery…weird, considering that threatening to kill colonies you’re in a relationship with seems to contradict the vibe.
Songs with the ensemble, like the opening track (“Alexander Hamilton’), “My Shot,” and “Yorktown” are epic.
Tracks with a poppier feel (“Blow Us All Away,” Say No to This,” “Take a Break”) are good shifts from a primarily Hip-Hop/Rap soundtrack.
Songs like “The Adams Administration” and “The Best of Wives and Women” are, in my mind, considered to be interludes - not too long, not too good.
A bit too much dialogue in a couple songs, and sometimes the pace of the soundtrack slows down due to this (and Eliza Schuyler)!
I did enjoy the song “The Schuyler Sisters” with the amusing interaction between Aaron Burr and Angelica Schuyler. Also, who doesn’t love the line:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal"
[Angelica;]
And when I meet Thomas Jefferson
I'ma compel him to include women in the sequel!”
(Change the Declaration to that, if you will. Very powerful lines - that’s what Hamilton is made of, all around, turning endless situations into catchy jams, with tight, historical lyrics and an equally tight flow).
That being said, there are historical inaccuracies scattered throughout the musical. This is especially apparent if you read the book Hamilton: The Revolution, where Lin basically admits to scrambling history and/or adding in falsities for the sake of a crowd pleaser or just simply for his own entertainment.
Also, just on a side note here, I would’ve appreciated if Philip Schuyler, Junior, when said he was nine, actually sounded and looked nine.I don’t want a to hear 20 something rap about how we just turned nine.
Overall, I would recommend Hamilton… Just watch out for the lyrics, and if you have children, please skip “Say No to This” (unless you’re like me and actually enjoy cleaning music)!Groundbreaking. I don't know what to rate this. Rebel, by Christian rapper Lecrae, is just mediocre.
My favorite songs: "Rebel Intro," "Don't Waste Your Life," "Identity," "Indwelling Sin," and "Beautiful Feet."
Though some songs have good messages (check my "Quotations" comments), the overall sound of Rebel is really not my style. Noisy, electronic-synth-laden tracks make up most of this release. It sounds like Christian club music - like Akon branching out or something.
Beats for "Identity" and "Don't Waste Your Life" are standouts, but most of it just kind of blends together; you know - same song, different name.
Lecrae's music would be more inspirational and uplifting if he didn't feel so full of himself - and I think this could be said for any of his albums; like, "Oh, yeah! I never have lust! Jack Harlow popped up right before COVID-19 lockdown with his song “WHATS POPPIN.” Harlow’s delivery and clean tone of voice immediately got my attention.
My favorite songs on this album are: “Way Out” (with Big Sean), “Creme,” and, of course, the “WHATS POPPIN Remix” (with DaBaby, Tory Lanez, and Lil Wayne - in that order).
Though people were pushing songs like Megan Thee Stallion “Savage Remix” with Beyoncé, or Doja Cat’s “Say So” for the song of 2020, I was pushing the “WHATS POPPIN Remix.” It had such a variety of skilled rappers!
The production on Thats What They All Say is tight, and the beats are versatile, “Creme” including a flute and grand piano. There are also some songs that lean more R&B.
Jack Harlow has a distinctive voice, and his flow is really on-point.

Favorite tracks: “my ex’s best friend (with blackbear),” “forget me too (with Halsey),” and “drunk face.”
Conceptually, Tickets to my Downfall is out of this world, especially considering MGK began as a rapper, and I thought pop-punk was just a fad, dying off with Avril Lavigne. The smooth blend of punk-hop (a term combining hip-hop and punk, which I just came up with on the fly) is undoubtedly crossover.
However, too many songs about getting drunk and making out can really wear down a guy like me. Plus, after the first few songs, the album just seems to blend together.
But my favorite tracks (mentioned earlier) definitely make this release stand-out!

Very unique plot that I, even as an avid writer, couldn’t pull off! The characters’ personalities in Dave Barry’s The Worst Night Ever are very fleshed-out, leaving little room for overall belief-suspension, which is, for me, a pro.
However, even though Barry made every character serve a purpose, the book could do with fewer people and the finished product would turn out just as well.
Also, the descriptions felt a bit overdone, regardless of whether details were important. Dave Barry's descriptions cluttered the innovative storyline, preventing it from reaching a climactic point.
The book had some repetitious language (especially when the author described a certain creature as “the thing” and referring to unnamed men as “the guy(s).” Also, a couple grammatical mistakes, which - well… this is a Pulitzer-Prize-winning author who wrote The Worst Night Ever. I know that if Dave Barry wasn’t so award-winning, I wouldn’t view grammatical errors as such an issue, but I do…sorry! :)
Overall, The Worst Night Ever wasn’t “the worst book ever,” as it did have a unique plot line; mainly, all the details were just a distraction.

NEGATIVITY WARNING:
“The Croods" didn't need a sequel; very few films do. The plot line of the original “Croods” was creative enough for me. A family of cave-people who *gasp!* meet a shirtless human named GUY? (Really, though: I'm being serious).
The second "Croods" film was unnecessary. It's what some people may call "the cash-out" (or, at least, that's what I call it).
The sequel's plot line was confusing, and even if it was pulled off properly is still weak. No score is dramatic enough to drown out the lack of the storyline's cooperation. The visuals were distracting and spasmatic. The mostly-crude jokes fell flat (no pun intended), and I wanted to bash my head against the theater wall maybe as many times as a character repeated a not-very-funny joke.
Likable characters weren't shown that often, and almost everyone I thought I liked in the first "Croods" movie became increasingly annoying in "the new age." (I want the old age back)!
So yeah... Dare you to watch "The Croods: A New Age." Will you be screaming in agony on the theater floor? Probably.NEGATIVITY WARNING:

As the first review from Didz_1, I want to start things off positively.
I have to say, Post Malone's Hollywood's Bleeding is, quite honestly, one of my favorite albums of all-time!! The third CD from the hip-hop singer, Hollywood's Bleeding showcases a versatile side from Post Malone that almost seems daring. Shockingly, though, this release does NOT feel overwhelming or surprising - considering that it's coming from a person who just recently shaved his head and got a scalp tattoo!
The features are excellent (Ozzy Osbourne with Travis Scott??), and the music is mind-blowing. Mixing classic metal and pop-rock with hip-hop is definitely an unprecedented move, though Post Malone pulls it off like it's nothing!
The most shocking song on this album, however overplayed it may be, has to go to "Circles." While not one of my favorites from Hollywood's Bleeding (wonder why that is...TOP 40!), it ultimately deserves the airplay it received. Post Malone was at the top of his game, and, finally getting recognition, he released "Circles," a catchy soft-pop track with a sturdy driving beat that is, pretty much, enjoyed by everyone!
Though there were a couple of songs that I don't play as frequently as others, Hollywood's Bleeding is an album that showcased to critics, as well as casual listeners, musical diversity and innovation. This is definitely an album that Malone wouldn't have released as the self proclaimed "Young Stoney."
I'm just waiting on his metal album! 🤣🤣🤣As the first review from Didz_1, I want to start things off positively.
